Ender Nailing for the Intertrochanteric Fracture of Femur


Abstract
Ender nailing has gained an accepted place in the management of the intertrochanteric fracture of femur in the elderly.
Total= 28 cases of Ender nailing, which had been done at Chonnam University Medical School during the past 3 years from January of 1982, could be reviewed.
The results were summarized as follows:
1. Their average age was 72.4 years and 19 of them were over 70 years of age.
2. Associated general disease, a total of 29 in number, could be diagnosed in 19 of them all. These included hypertension (7), pulmonary tuberculosis (5), diabetes mellitus (3), CVA (2), and others U.
3. The methods of anesthesia were inhalation anesthesia in 3 and spinal anesthesia in 25.
4. The average running time of operation was 45.8 min.
5. The average blood loss was 150cc.
6. Postoperative complications, a total of 16 in number, were encountered and these include knee pain (8), distal migration of pin (3), and others (5).
